Please use the form above to request admissions info for Cecil College.
Mining techniques have dramatically transformed over many years, with technological advances improving efficiency and safety. In the discovery stage of mineral exploration, mining engineers work closely with geologists to identify minerals and assess reserve quantities. Mineral engineers may then drill core samples and conduct surface surveys, searching for specific compounds and ores. Unless mineral engineering is done on public lands, the property owners may play a significant role in mining exploration.
Generally, mining is either done from the surface or underground. Surface mining requires the stripping of surface vegetation, dirt, and if necessary, layers of bedrock in order to reach buried ore deposits. Additionally, explosives may be called for in order to facilitate breakage. Hard minerals such as limestone, sand, gravel, and slate are generally quarried into a series of benches. Strip mining, on the other hand, is more appropriate for softer minerals such as clays and phosphate. In-situ mining can be done from the surface using dissolving agents, retrieving the ore via pumps. Finally, hydraulic jets may be utilized to wash away the overburden or to clear out the ore itself.

Aerospace Engineering Programs
Aerospace engineers may design aircraft, space vehicles, satellites, and missile systems. In addition, they test prototypes to make sure that they function according to design. Aerospace engineers are employed in building, analysis and design of commercial aircraft, missile systems for national defense, or spaceships. Aerospace engineers are employed primarily in manufacturing, research and development, and must have a bachelors degree in aerospace engineering or another related field. In addition, aerospace engineers that work on projects that are related to national defense will need a security clearance.Aerospace operations technicians and mechanics, on the other hand, need only an associates degree to begin earning a good salary. They operate and maintain equipment used in developing, testing, and producing new aircraft and spacecraft. Increasingly, these workers must be able to use computer-based modeling (CAD) and simulation tools in their work. Certification is offered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Both companies and the FAA seek to ensure the highest standards for the safety of the aircraft. In fact, SpaceTEC, the National Science Foundation Center for Aerospace Technical Education, coordinates a nationwide program through community and technical colleges to help students prepare for certification. The median annual wage for aerospace engineers with a bachelors degree was $107,830, while aircraft technicians and mechanics holding an associate's degree earned $66,180, as of May 2015.

Engineering Job Listings
The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.Job listings below are updated hourly: | Starting Salary (up to) | 10 Year Salary (up to) |
